Well today has come and gone and the waters, if anything, are murkier and more worrisome than ever. So let's have a quick Q&A to try to figure out what's gone on
So what happened today?
HMRC lodged their appeal with the high court against the way Bates's CVA was done (procedural issues rather than the financial aspect being cited). The hearing will last for 5 days and take place in early Spetember
September? But that's...
After the new season starts, yes. The Football League doesn't allow clubs in admin to start a new season unless in "exceptional circumstances" - and the lawyers today said that this didn't qualify as exceptional and that we may not be allowed to start the season
So can we join the season later?
Who knows? It seems unlikely that that could happen and that we could either play catch-up. If we were to join the season late it could mean that we had to forfeit the first month's worth of fixtures and be way, way behind when we started. The transfer window would be shut, chances are a lot of players will have been sold to keep the club running until then and a second successive relegation could be inevitable
So what happens in the interim?
Depending on who you believe, KPMG (the administrators) are able to buy the club back for £1 and then secure the best deal for the creditors. This may or may not be Bates and his cronies
So there could be some good news?
Leeds United don't do good news, but if the impasse continues, and there's no other way to secure funding to continue running the club, it may happen
So the MPs who were so vociferous about it?
Not a peep out of any of them - to nobody's great surprise. Truswell, Mudie and Willis have nothing to say about the current predicament. Coun Carter, co-leader of Leeds City Council has, however, called for a resolution and offered to let them use the council as a go-between or mediator to try to sort the mess out
So now what?
We wait and see what transpires. Nobody seems to know what's coming next but, until the Football League decide where we stand, it doesn't look too good
Update 8:30 pm - KPMG have put the club up for sale. I doubt this is over, not by a long chalk, but hopefully we now will get a resolution before this season's a write-off
